I have recently started using Safari as my primary browser. I love Firefox, but the Safari Top Sites page that shows images of my favorite sites with little blue corners to indicate they have been updated has inspired a change. But one thing I hated about Safari when I switched was that it insisted on opening all of my links in new windows. Then I had to remember to click command-click on the links, which was too much for me. I almost went back to Firefox…but then I got an issue of Macworld in the mail with a tip about how to solve this problem. So, for those of you Mac users out there who also like Safari here’s a link to the article, and here is a description about how to do it:
- Quit Safari
- Open Applications – Utilities
- Select ‘Terminal’
- Press enter so you see something like Macintosh:~User$
- Enter the following command: defaults write com.apple.Safari TargetedClicksCreateTabs -bool true
- Press Return
- You are Done!
